The Online Gallery for
Seascape Textile Art
I love the water - being near it, listening to it, allowing it to heal me. Making textile art allows me to extend my passion for the coast - through fabrics.
I have always been an artist, a doodler, a collector, a colourist; and the need to express myself with textures is a passion I can't ignore. Initially, I began to paint - however an illness (severe allergy) has stopped me in my tracks with regards to the mediums I can use. Whilst recovering from a particularly severe attack - I visited a scrap-store and almost fell into the fabrics - finding colour, texture, sparkle and delight in every thread. The rest is history - I dug out my Mum's old sewing machine - had a five minute lesson on how it works and have found my way ever since.
I am lucky enough to live by the North Devon coast and make regular trips to Woolacombe, Putsborough, Saunton, Croyde and Westward Ho! I also work from photographs and from memories to create seascapes and coastal art that I want to live in. I use lace, silk, ribbon, beads, seaglass, all sorts of fabrics and have a very lovely time sewing them all together.
